GETTING AROUND MADISON

FLYING
Dane County Regional Airport (MSN), located just 6 miles north of downtown Madison, has direct flights from 13 cities, including Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago and Minneapolis. Once at the airport, you can rent a car, take a shuttle or taxi or take the Madison Metro Transit bus. Also, check to see if your hotel offers a complimentary airport shuttle.

Another option if coming from afar and the Dane County Airport is not convenient, is to fly into Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport (MKE) and rent a car. The trip will take about 1 ½ hours straight west on I-94.

DRIVING
Madison is located in south central Wisconsin, about 1 hour north of the Illinois border. Several major highways lead to Madison: I-94 west from Milwaukee (1.5 hours); I-90 north from Chicago (2.5 hours); I-94 south from Minneapolis/St. Paul (4.5 hours); US-151 north from Dubuque (1 hour).

BUS

Madison is accessible by Greyhound Bus Lines from multiple cities, by Mega Bus from Chicago and Minneapolis, and by Badger Bus from Milwaukee and Minneapolis/St. Paul.

GETTING AROUND MADISON
The distance between the Capitol square and Camp Randall/Kohl Center is about 1.5 miles, down State St. and through campus. Veering off further into campus and towards Memorial Union on Lake Mendota isn’t much of a detour, so walking in decent weather is your best option for seeing the sights and exploring State Street (especially since no vehicles are allowed there).

Taxis are plentiful, but you’ll probably need to call one a few minutes in advance to arrange for pick-up:

Madison Taxi: (608) 255-8294
Union Cab: (608) 242-2000
Badger Cab:
(608) 256-5566
Green Cab: (608) 255-1234

Metro Bus
The City of Madison Metro Bus system will get you anywhere from the airport, all around downtown, campus, south down Monroe St. and well beyond.

ZipCar Rental
ZipCar membership offers a hastle-free alternative to car rental and is perfect for short-term use.

Bike Rentals
Madison is a biking town. Rent a bike for the day and circle around Lake Monona, explore the Capitol City Trail, ride out along Lake Mendota to Picnic Point, or tour through campus and the UW Arboretum. Download a bike trail map to take with you.
