Al’s Breakfast

Al’s Breakfast

At a width of 10 feet, Al’s restaurant is the narrowest restaurant in Minneapolis. If you are looking for a comfortable relaxing breakfast experience, this probably isn’t the place for you. However, if you are in search of excellent made-to-order breakfast, in a unique, character-filled setting, head to Al’s-a Jame’s Beard award winner in the “America’s Classics Restaurants” category. Open in 1950, Author and NPR host Garrison Keillor has been known to be a regular at Al’s. Go early and be prepared to wait in line-first outside, and then crammed along the one wall behind the row of 15 stools at the counter. Once you reach your stool, don’t get too comfy-you may be asked to shift in order to accomodate the next customers. Although all of this may sound awkward, the service is extremely friendly and the breakfast can no be beat. And a typical greasy spoon this is not; try the bacon waffles (bacon cooked in waffles), eggs benedict, whole wheat blueberry or pumpkin pancakes or asparagus, basil, mozarella omelette.
