Best on Main Street, Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor’s Main Street is nothing short of diverse. Food and culture’s from all over the globe gather in the three main blocks that make up Main Street’s satisfaction of taste.  And no matter how far from home one finds themselves, they may find comfort in the fact that they are never farther away than Main for their favorite homemade cuisine.

I find myself all too frequently going in to the same Main Street Restaurants to enjoy what I know I like. However, the street is home to some of the most fantastic foods and drinks that lack neither originality nor quality. Also remember, good things take time…and if there’s a wait, I promise it’s worth it. On Fridays and Saturdays all year long Main Street is lit up with lights, musicians, and becomes a social gathering of those waiting to eat at one of the many fabulous restaurants- so come early and enjoy the entirety of all the Main Street in Ann Arbor has to offer.

Here’s a little taste of what’s good for what you’re craving (in both my opinion and the general consensus of participants!)

Shalimar Restaurant: Indian

Shalimar Restaurant specializes in North Indian, Tandoori and Mughlai dishes. Shalimar really strives for authenticity and quality along with including a different kick and spice in every bite!

Real Seafood Company: Seafood

The Real Seafood Company specializes in seafood, directly imported from the waters of Boston, Chesapeake Bay, and George’s Bank. Not only are all the entrees fantastic but the rolls and butter beforehand are to die for.

The Black Pearl: Martini Bar

The Black Pearl not only specializes in one-of-a-kind martinis but also seafood and atmosphere. Both inside and outdoor seating options offer a classy venue for socializing, entertaining, or simply enjoying upscale seafood selections.

Palio’s: Italian

Palio’s is an Italian restaurant presenting authentic Tuscan cuisine and a country-style twist. Enjoy Palio’s inside dining as well as porch dining with a great view of Ann Arbor.

Prickly Pear Cafe: Southwestern

Inspired by authentic southwestern dishes, The Prickly Pear Café adds something special to each dish making you crave the intense flavor. The Prickly Pear is one of the restaurants that you’ll never leave unsatisfied or half full!

MIddle Kingdom: Chinese

Middle Kingdom, acts as a diamond in the ruff of Main Street, however Michael Phelps agrees that Middle Kingdom serves great traditional Mandarin, Chinese and Szechuan cuisine. Outside looking in, it may not look the most appealing, but once you’re inside you’ll agree- the food is too good to leave!

Connor O’Neil’s: Irish Pub

Connor O’Neal’s successful attempt to bring the Ireland pubs to Ann Arbor is reliant on the laidback setting (half living room/half bar) and sharing authentic Irish tunes and beer. Connor O’Neal’s brings one of the most social scenes to Main Street.

Vinology: Wine Bar

Vinology offers a trendy setting where you can kick back and enjoy wines from all around the globe, while also exploring the foods that bring out the best of your palate.

The Chop House: Steak House

Without a doubt The Chop House features one of the most elegant and refined settings on Main. Perfect for business meetings or special occasions you will find grain-fed USDA prime beef worth waiting for.

Grizzly Peak Brewing Company: American Food

The rustic ambiance and exposed brick paired with food from “scratch,” makes this Brewing Company one of Ann Arbors best or referred by Ann Arbors news as “a legend in its own time.”
