A Nightcap in Champaign-Urbana: SomaUltralounge

If Murphy’s Pub wins the award for the quaintest bar in Urbana-Champaign, and Station 211 wins the award for the most energetic venue in Urbana-Champaign, SomaUltralounge is going to be added to the list of notable U of I-related nightlife by, easily, being the trendiest spot in the area. It’s ultra-contemporary and it’s swank as all get out. Think trendy night club in downtown New York City or Los Angeles. If you frequent SomaUltralounge your coolness points will increase by at least four and a half. I’m surprised they let garden-variety civilians into such a hip joint.

SomaUltralounge has a different, fun event nearly every night of the week. Wednesday is I Love the 90’s Night. DJ Mingram rotates everyone’s favorite, and not favorite, hits from the 90’s dance music charts. Who couldn’t love that? It’s a great way to mix up the monotony of the exact same Top 40 songs blasting at every other venue. If you want to create your own vibe, contact SomaUltralounge, because they book private parties that consist of as little as two or as many as 200 people.
