The Hetzel Union Building (HUB) is the central gathering place for students, staff and faculty on campus. Work began on the HUB in January 1953, which was funded in part by a student activity fee. Renovations in 1973, 1983 and 1997 brought the HUB to the existing 154,000 square foot building.

Dining at the HUB offers something for every taste when you’d prefer a quick, easy place to grab a bite on campus. Joegies serves sandwiches named after each Big Ten school. Mexican, Chinese, hot dogs, pizza, soups and salads, and Starbucks coffee are all available at the HUB. Dining hours vary, see website for current schedule.

The HUB houses three separate areas for visual art displays, featuring student artists to artists of international stature. The Robeson Gallery is a large formal gallery with rotating exhibits featuring international and national artists using all forms of medium, while the HUB Gallery offers an intimate gallery space featuring rotating exhibits of contemporary art. Located just outside HUB Gallery along the walls, Art Alley is an open, accessible space.

The Paul Robeson Cultural Center “provides programs and services that encourage the appreciation of the diverse perspectives, experiences, and cultures of many under-represented communities that comprise the student, faculty, staff, and community population of University Park and State College, Pennsylvania.” Art exhibits, performances and educational lectures take place throughout the year. See the website for a current schedule of events, exhibits and programs.
