“Sweet Sioux” Tomahawk (1945-2008)
In 1945, the staff at both schools’ newspapers conceived the idea of a wooden Indian trophy to commemorate the winner of the rivalry game. “Sweet Sioux,” as the trophy was named, was stolen from Northwestern in 1946, and was replaced with a wooden Tomahawk trophy that was used until 2008, after it was retired in accordance to a 2005 NCAA mandate that all American Indian imagery deemed hostile and abusive be removed from college athletics.

Land of Lincoln Trophy (2009-present)
The land of Lincoln trophy replaced the “Sweet Sioux” Tomahawk in 2009. It is named after the official state nickname of Illinois, and depicts a bronze replica of a stovepipe hat famously worn by Abraham Lincoln.
