Having joined the Big Ten in 2011 as a member of the Legends Division, Nebraska does not necessarily hold any coveted traditions within the conference. However, the creation of the Heroes Game against Iowa (Legends) has begun an annual trophy game tradition. In addition, the long history between PSU (Leaders) and Nebraska could prove a heated rivalry game and has been slated as a protected cross-over rivalry game to be played annually.
Although there is no trophy, the Nebraska - Penn State series dates back to 1920, when the Nittany Lions shut out the Huskers 20-0. Although the teams have only met 14 times in the past 9 decades, the teams have always considered each other to be bitter-yet highly respected-rivals.
