Nichols Arboretum

Nichols Arboretum is a 123 acre nature area that sits between North and Central campuses, with walking trails through oak trees, wetlands, praries, and along the Huron River. The “Arb” is open to the public.
Gardens and trails open 7 days a week, sunrise to sunset. 

Gallup Park

A 69-acre park surrounding Geddes Pond and parts of the Huron River, Gallop Park consists of numerous paved walking/biking trails, a butterfly garden, and Canoe Livery where you can rent canoes, kayaks and paddle boats for use on the Huron River.  Paddling instruction and guided group paddles are also offered.

Matthaei Botanical Gardens

Run by the University of Michigan, there are miles of wooded hiking trails around ponds and along Fleming Creek, and numerous outdoor gardens.  The 10,000+ square foot indoor conservatory is believed to be the largest free-span (no supporting columns) in the world.  
Gardens and trails open 7 days a week, sunrise to sunset.  Conservatory open Mon.-Tue. & Thurs.-Sun., 10am-4:30pm; Wed. 10am-8pm.

Skip’s Huron River Canoe Livery

Since 1976, Skip’s has been offering Canoe and Kayak rental for use along the scenic Huron River. The bus takes you up river, and you are given the date to paddle back at your leisure.

Located on U of M’s Athletic Campus, just south of Central Campus, Yost Ice Area is a hub of activity for both UM sports and public skate sessions.  Catch the Men’s and Women’s Varsity Hockey teams here October-March, or lace up your skates (bring you own or rent some there) and take to the ice.
Public skate times vary; check their website for the current schedule.
Admission: Adults, $5; Students, Youth, Seniors, $3. Skate Rental, $2.

Outdoor 25-yard pool with 2 lap lanes, separate zero-depth-entry to pool, sun deck, and locker rooms. Buhr also offers swim lessons, day camp, water polo camp, and neighborhood swim team; call for dates, times, and fees.

The largest outdoor pool in town, with 50-meter Olympic lap lanes available daily, a children’s shallow area, water slide, full handicapped accessibility, and family locker rooms. Fuller also has lounge chairs, a day camp, and a picnic pavilion.

Just 9 miles from Ann Arbor, Dexter Cider Mill is the oldest operating cider mill in Michigan. Open since 1866, Dexter Cider Mill has been making wood pressed cider, caramel apples, donuts, strudel, turnovers, and apple pies.

Envisioned by former coach Fielding Yost, Michigan Stadium was built in 1927, and has expanded from 72,000 to 110,000. Since 1974, “The Big House” has led the nation in average attendance every year except 1997.

USA Hockey National Team Development Program

USA Hockey, the governing body of hockey in the United States, has based their National Team Development Program (NTDP) at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. The NTDP consists of two teams: an Under-18 and an Under-17 team. The programs prepares student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation in collegiate level hockey, and hockey careers in the U.S. National Teams and the NHL. Approximately 35 games are played each year at the Ice Cube.

This historic golf course is one of only six courses designed by Alister Mackenzie in 1931; another notable Mackenzie course is the famed Augusta National.
***Eligible players include students, faculty, staff & alumni. Guests are permitted with one of the above mentioned eligible players. Foursomes must include at least one of the eligible players.
Admission/Rentals: $40 guests, $25 student and seniors (Cart rental: $14 for 9 or $26 for 18).
Club Rentals: $30 for premium, $15 for generic (men’s, women’s, left and right-handed available).

Overlooking the Huron River, Huron Hills provides some of the city’s best scenery for this public 18-hole, par-67 course.
Reserve a tee-time, or walk-on play may be available.
Greens fees for 9/18 holes: Weekdays $13/$18; weekends & holidays $14/$20; juniors (age 17 & under) and seniors (age 57 & over) weekdays $9/$14. Juniors free with adult after 3 p.m. on Sun.
Club rental: $9/$12, pull cart rental $2, power cart rental $7/$13.

Greens fees for 9/18 holes: weekdays $15/$25 (with cart $25/$38), weekends $20/$30 (with cart $25/$44). Discounts for seniors (age 55 & over) $22 weekdays. Students (must have valid school ID) get $3 off any 18-hole rate weekdays.

Rolling hills, Traver Creek, and a series of small ponds make this a picturesque 18-hole, par-72 course for intermediate and experienced golfers.
Greens fees for 9/18 holes: weekdays $16/$25; weekends & holidays $18/$29; juniors (age 17 & under) and seniors (age 57 & over) weekdays, $13/$17. Power carts for 9 or 18 holes: $6/$13 per rider. Twilight rates (after 6 p.m.), weekday specials (before 11 a.m.), and weekend and afternoon specials (after 2 p.m.) available.
