MICHIGAN vs. MICHIGAN STATE

PAUL BUNYAN TROPHY
In 1953, former Michigan governor G. Mennen Williams commissioned The Paul Bunyan Trophy.  A symbol of in-state dominance, the trophy is a four-foot wooden statue of the legendary Paul Bunyan planted on a map of the state of Michigan, flanked by two flags– one with the Michigan “M” and the other with the Michigan State “S”.

GUARDING OF THE DIAG
For years, frat members and students have held vigil during the week leading up to the UM-MSU game to guard the Block M at the center of the Diag from sneaky Spartan graffiti artists.
