ZEKE THE WONDER DOG

When you visit East Lansing on game day Saturday, you might wonder what all the fuss is about the yellow lab you see visiting fans in the tailgate lots before the game. Until half-time rolls around, and you see that same lab out on the field, flying through the air at  amazing heights to catch a frisbee. Zeke the Wonder Dog has become a sort of ‘unofficial’ mascot at Michigan State home football games. The original Zeke, a championship disc catching yellow lab, began performing his tricks at MSU half-time shows in 1977, until his retirement in 1984. In 2002, the tradition was revived with Zeke II, a black lab who entertained the crowd until 2007, when the current Zeke III stepped in. Zeke II passed away at the age of 16 in February, 2012. Zeke III continues the tradition today.
